A common method of staking up beansis to create a bean pole tepee out of river cane. We were able to provide river cane for ourparticipants since it is so plentiful in Scott County. We were able to get the youth involved by taking a group of high school students on a field trip the last week of school to cut river cane.
One of our participants has come up with her own way of staking up her pole beans by using metal posts, wires and strings to create a trellis for the beans. The wire and posts can be reused year after year.
